calculating the minimum hash size for a given set of files. youonly use a subset of the hash for the index. we want to find theminimum prefix bits we need to make sure that each unique file inthe given list has a unique hash. “unique file” is an importantphrase since the list may have files with duplicate content. iffiles are duplicates they will (and must) have the same hash, sotheir hash prefix will also be the same.
