A hash table is a vector of items in which access to anitem is efficiently implemented. The idea behind hash table is thatfor each item we want to store, we calculate an address (vector’sindex location) based on a key value of the item such as empid andcredit card number. We try to place the item in that location ofthe vector. When we need to find the item, we once again calculateits index based on the key value. A hash table therefore allows usto store and retrieve items by their key values.
