Employee termination is protected by the common law principle of employment at will. This refers to the logic that as the employee is free to terminate the relationship between the employer and him/ her, so is the employer. According to this principle, employers can terminate their employees. However, terminating the employees may not be easy always as there can be several exceptions where this common law principle will not hold good.
