As we have discussed in class, Rousseau’s Social Contract Theory advocated for an agreement between the people and the government, that all of society have a voice. The American Revolution did indeed grant freedom from England’s monarchy (King George), but it ultimately extended that freedom to only 6% of the population—property owning, white, Christian, males.
