Regulation may impact ones ability to work or perform businessduties in the industry I’m in. If someone has committed a crime andlanded on the Office of Inspector General’s exclusion list, theyare not permitted to receive payment from a program by way offederal funds. Because my company only offers Medicare and Medicaidplans, we only receive government funds. We are required to performexclusion checks on all employees, contracted employees andvendors, to ensure we are not conducting business with someoneexcluded from participation in federal programs. Some crimes thatmay result in exclusion include Medicare or Medicaid fraud orhealthcare related fraud.
