The Red Cross employs volunteers to collect blood from donors.Each day, at the Red Cross headquarters, an army of 20 volunteerscollect blood at a continuous rate of 200 pints per hour. Theybegin collecting blood at 7 a.m.. At 11 a.m., 10 additionalvolunteers arrive boosting the blood collection rate from 200 pintsper hour to 300 pints per hour. The collection runs until 2 p.m.with no breaks. At the headquarters, a cold storage with unlimitedcapacity is available for blood that awaits processing.
