President’s Day – what are we really celebrating?
Should a president’s personal life be taken into account when wecelebrate them? George Washington was a slave owner and AbrahamLincoln waffled on civil rights for Blacks. How do we overcometheir past? Should we? Think of statues of Confederate heroes thatare being removed throughout the country and give a contemporaryexample of a person or statue who should be celebrated, despite ourmodern lens that condemns their past views or actions.
