The slogan “15 minutes can save you 15% or more” and “It’s so easy a caveman can do it” has propelled GEICO to be the 2nd largest auto insurer in the United States. Government Employee Insurance Company was started in the mid-1930s at the peak of the Great Depression by Leo and Lillian Godwin. In 1937, the Godwin’s moved GEICO from San Antonio to Washington D.C. so that they can be closer to the largest pool of their target market. Once established, Leo Godwin began to sell directly to his target market.
